A confidential circle for women who lead public school districts.

Lead from Within

A year-long experience of facilitated dialogue, individual coaching, and intentional reflection—designed to strengthen the woman carrying the role.

Before much of your community begins its day, you may already be carrying the questions, decisions, and concerns of an entire district.

Your work touches thousands of lives. You hold the aspirations of students and families, the needs of your staff, the expectations of your board, and the responsibility of leading through whatever comes next

You chose this work because you believe deeply in what public education can make possible. That commitment still matters to you.

And yet, when so much of your attention is directed outward, there may be little space to pause, listen inwardly, and attend to yourself.

Not the superintendent. The woman within the role.

There are few places where a superintendent can speak with complete honesty.

Your cabinet looks to you for steadiness.

Your board expects sound judgment.

Your community watches not only what you decide, but how you respond.

Even among trusted colleagues, there may be parts of the experience you hold back—because confidentiality matters, because relationships are complex, or because you are accustomed to being the one others rely upon.

So much remains with you.

The difficult conversation you continue to replay.

The decision with no uncomplicated answer.

The needs of others that follow you long after the workday ends.

This is not a failure of resilience. It is the reality of leading with significant responsibility, visibility, and care. But even the most accomplished leaders need space to think deeply, speak honestly, and reconnect with what grounds them.

It is easy to believe that space will come later—after the board meeting, the budget cycle, the leadership transition, or the next pressing challenge. But the demands of leadership rarely create that space on their own.

Intentional reflection does not take you away from the work. It strengthens your capacity to meet it with clarity, discernment, and a deeper trust in yourself.

The question is not whether you can keep going.

It is how you want to continue—and whether the way you are leading allows you to remain fully yourself.

What if growing as a leader did not mean becoming better at carrying more?

What if, instead, you had a trusted place to pause—to speak openly, reflect honestly, and reconnect with the wisdom already within you?

Not another initiative to lead.
Not another strategy to implement.

A space to be supported, strengthened, and fully yourself.

This is leadership development from within.

Introducing The Protea Experience

Protea is a confidential, year-long leadership experience for a personally curated circle of no more than nine women who lead public school districts.

Through facilitated dialogue, individual coaching, and intentional reflection, Protea creates space to step back from the immediate demands of leadership, consider what matters most, and attend to the woman within the role.

Throughout the year, you will deepen your presence, resilience, self-trust, and authenticity—strengthening your capacity to meet complex decisions and relationships with greater clarity, discernment, and quiet confidence. Not by becoming someone different, but by becoming more fully yourself.

As trust grows within the circle, you will also build meaningful relationships with accomplished women who understand the role from the inside—women whose wisdom, perspective, and support can continue well beyond the year.

This is the Protea Way: leadership strengthened from within.

What's Inside

Each element of Protea is intentionally designed to support both individual growth and the development of a deeply trusted peer community.

Monthly gatherings, individual coaching, reflection between gatherings, and the Protea Leadership Practices work together to create a steady rhythm of connection, insight, and application throughout the year. As trust deepens, each woman is both supported by—and contributes to—the collective wisdom of the circle.
